“The Battle for BC Rights and Reservations Begins” — Constitutional Amendment is the Need of the Hour, says National BC Dal President Dundra Kumaraswamy

Condemning the continued injustice faced by Backward Classes (BCs) for decades, National BC Dal President Dundra Kumaraswamy asserted that even the judiciary’s recent approach towards BC reservation issues has been deeply disappointing. “Social justice is not a slogan — it is a constitutional right guaranteed by the soul of the Indian Constitution,” he emphasized.

A crucial meeting of BC community leaders, youth representatives, legal professionals, and social activists was held at Kachiguda today under the chairmanship of Kumaraswamy. During the session, he was unanimously elected as the National Chairman of the BC Reservation Struggle Coordination Joint Action Committee (JAC). He announced that the complete national executive committee of the JAC will be declared tomorrow.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumaraswamy strongly condemned the recent High Court stay on G.O. No. 9, issued by the Telangana Government granting 42% reservation for BCs in local bodies. He described it as “an assault on the dignity and equal rights of BCs,” adding that “a massive state-wide agitation is now inevitable.”

Kumaraswamy extended complete support to the Telangana State Bandh scheduled for October 18, calling upon BC communities, intellectuals, youth, women, workers, professionals, and corporate employees to stand united in solidarity.
“The Central Government must immediately initiate a constitutional amendment,” he demanded.

He urged the Centre to include the BC Reservation Bill under Schedule IX of the Constitution to safeguard it from judicial intervention. “If the government fails to act, BC communities across the nation will rise in a historic movement for justice,” he warned.

Terming the formation of the National BC Reservation Struggle Coordination JAC as a historic and auspicious step, Kumaraswamy said the JAC will work as a unified national platform connecting BC youth, intellectuals, lawyers, doctors, occupational groups, employees, workers, MBCs, nomadic and semi-nomadic communities across India.

He clarified that the movement is not political but a fight for dignity and equality. “This is a movement for social justice, equality, and self-respect,” he declared. “The voice of BCs must be heard — if the Centre remains indifferent, the cry of public resistance will shake the nation.”

The event was attended by  BC Youth President Rubin Goud, along with several legal experts, trade union representatives, and community leaders from various BC organizations.
