Infant’s Death in Nagar Kurnool Triggers Tension; Demand for Special Law to Protect BCs
Nagar Kurnool district witnessed tense scenes in Kummera village following the death of a two-month-old infant after a clash that reportedly took place at a local temple. Allegations have surfaced that members of the Rajaka community were attacked during the incident, leading to widespread outrage.
Condemning the episode as tragic and inhuman, Dundra Kumara Swamy, National President of the BC Dal and Chairman of the BC Reservations Sadhana Coordination JAC, said the death of the infant had deeply shaken the community. He stated that the entire BC community strongly condemns the incident.
Mr. Swamy demanded that the government provide immediate financial assistance to the bereaved family and extend all necessary support. He called for the immediate arrest of those responsible and urged that a murder case be registered against those found accountable for the infant’s death. If any public representatives are involved, he said, their positions should be cancelled forthwith and they should face an impartial inquiry.
He observed that even decades after Independence, the constitutional guarantees of equality and freedom envisioned by B. R. Ambedkar are yet to be fully realised, and described the present incident as a reflection of that gap. He expressed concern over recurring instances of social discrimination against Backward Classes across the country.
Seeking stronger legal safeguards, Mr. Swamy demanded the enactment of a special law for the protection of BC communities on the lines of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. He urged the Telangana government to immediately introduce and implement a BC Protection Act in the State.
A candlelight vigil was held as a mark of protest and homage to the deceased infant. A protest march was also organised under the leadership of Rajaka associations and BC organisations. Greater Hyderabad president Rajesh Yadav and Rajaka association president Sandeep were among those who participated.
