On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a commemorative event was held at the Media Point in Lakdikapool, Hyderabad, where speakers described him not merely as a warrior king but as a visionary ruler who ushered in meaningful social transformation. Dundra Kumaraswamy, National President of the National BC Dal and Chairman of the BC Reservations Sadhana Coordination JAC, said Shivaji built Swarajya on the foundations of self-respect for the oppressed, farmers’ welfare, social justice, and equality, making his model of governance relevant to modern democracy. The programme was presided over by Dr. Jai Poornachandra Rao, IPS (Retd.), former Director General of Police and National Coordinator of AIBSP. Former IAS officer Chiranjeevulu, President of the Intellectual Forum, also participated along with other dignitaries and paid floral tributes to Shivaji’s portrait.
Speakers noted that Shivaji’s administration reflected inclusive governance, protection of women’s dignity, agrarian welfare, and empowerment of marginalized communities. They underlined that his legacy extends beyond military accomplishments to institution-building and ethical statecraft rooted in people-centric values. The gathering called upon the younger generation to draw inspiration from his life and contribute towards building an egalitarian and socially just society in contemporary India.
